He served as U.S. Treasury Secretary 1864-1865 in the Lincoln Administration after Salmon Chase. This Memorial Book Documents Addresses made by Members of the House and Senate. Senator Sumner (MA) and Senator Williams (OR) gave 2 of the Many Addresses Given on the Life and Character of Sen. Fessenden.
